Talisman

Tony Trimingham

ref: September 98 Heroinsight

Remember when I was your talisman
If I went to the game you won
If I stayed away you lost

So where was I on the clear Monday night when you went down
Dying stupidly and darkly with no means to hold your life dear
Your run to relief was a brief reprieve
But you forgot your good luck charm

Though I long for the day before heroin
Instead of all these days after
I failed you as a talisman

So now I'll be be your witness
I'll make your secrets public
I'll burn up the distance between us
I'll give you breath again.
