Lost

Has anyone seen my heart?
It's a good heart, but lost and broken. Are you warm? You're always so cold now. Where will you sleep on this cold winter's night?

You left, said, `Mum, I don't want to hurt you anymore, I'm sorry, I love you with all my heart.'

You gave up and you mustn't give up! You are a special human being and have much to offer this world. The notes and the strings are waiting for your touch.

You gave me your love and you gave me your dreams. I'm holding your dreams.

I gave you life, kept you safe and warm in my womb so long ago. My heart beat for you then; it still beats for you now. I feel your pain and I see your shame.

I remember when you were small, frightened to go to sleep, waking in the night gasping for breath. The medicine I gave you gave you breath. Now you seek that sleep. And the medicine you take will take your breath away.

The one who you thought mattered the most. He taught you the first step of where you are today. Then turned his back and said go away. No matter, my love, he is not worthy of your love.

I want to scream, you tried so hard. On the list, ring, ring every week, not enough rehabs. No-one cares, he's no good, but he is my heart. Am I no good too?

Wherever you are, my heart. Know also that I love you with all my heart. For you are my heart. And have been since the first moment I held you in my arms.

If you find my heart, he is my son. And his name is Simon. Just hold him and keep him warm.
Until I get there.
