| Dear
Mr Trimingham,
I
should like to thank you dearly for your kind letter
of 28 October, 1999, and for your gracious invitation
to visit Australia and the splendid city of Sydney.
Allow me also to take this occasion to express my
lasting gratitude for the understanding and support
you have extended to our fellow Soka Gakkai International
members in Australia, and for your generosity in sharing
your experience and insights at two of our forums.
Through
its untiring efforts to address and resolve the tragedy
brought on by drug and alcohol abuse, the Family Drug
Support is providing an inestimable service not only
to stricken families and individuals, but the future
of humanity itself. You deserve the highest admiration,
for the extraordinary courage and example you have
shown in overcoming the loss of your beloved son and
in your dedication to what is undoubtedly the loftiest
of all causes-to help others overcome their grief
and anguish.
That
cause is also central to all our activities at the
SGI, a movement that encourages its members in 128
countries around the world to contribute to the welfare
of their respective communities and societies. Our
goal is to spend each day making a difference in this
world, to promote personal happiness and global peace-august
ends we would cherish working with you and your distinguished
foundation to achieve.
When
I do have the privilege of visiting your country in
the near future, I hope I may personally express my
appreciation and admiration to you. For now, however,
please accept my best wishes for your health and well-being
and for the continued success of all your endeavours.
