| Dear
FDS,
My daughter is a heroin addict and has been for 18 months.
She is 20 years old and her daughter has been taken
into care by DOCS. Thank God. They are in Bathurst.
My
heart is broken. She tries to detox but can't complete
the programme. I know she wants to stop. She is involved
with a heroin addict. He is the father of her baby.
He has been an addict for about 5 years. He has been
in jail.
My
daughter steals and has been to court numerous times.
She must be close to going to jail. My daughter, Alex,
was the most wonderful daughter prior to meeting her
partner 5 years ago (or so). She was a happy and intelligent,
socially aware and musical girl. I adored her. She lies
now and steals. She gave up her family for heroin. What
do you do? I know Alex's father and I are helpless until
she abstains. Alex is now on methadone. This was something
she didn't want to do. The pain is shocking; one thinks
over and over `What did I do to cause this?' Drug and
alcohol workers say `it is their decision.' Is it? Is
it a disease? What did we do? I want my daughter back.
This new person is so corrupt. Who is she?
Everyone suffers when there is a heroin addict in the
family. The effects are so far reaching. When will Bob
Carr allow `shooting galleries'? I don't know what the
best solution is. Law enforcement has failed.
Anyway, thank you for the magazines. When can or will
our children take control and stop this? When will a
treatment work? What can we do?
